I am having trouble getting the the wma files to play back.   I am kind of new to rockbox, but this is the feature I needed to want to to make the switch.    I am using a 2nd Gen Ipod Mini and encoding WMA with Windows Media Encoder 9.2 .   I have tried several settings and none of them work.

Are WMA supposed to play natively or do you need to run some plug in.

Any help would be appreciated...

No one can help you if you don't provide any details.

WMA standard > 32 kbps is supported. WMA Pro is not supported.

Sorry for the lack of info.

I tried using 48Kbps at 44 KHz mono CBR using wma 9.2 Codec and get "Data Abort at E800007A"

My higher bitrates were wma 10 (which i think is pro).

I tried again at 64Kbps and it works!   Thank you.

Here is another stupid question, does fast foward work or is that a know bug.   It shows the file fast fowarding, but then returns as if it was just playing normally...

As I understand it - the WMA library that's being ported into Rockbox supports only WMA versions 1 and 2 - most definitely not version 9.

Up to V9.2 can still be decoded with a V2 decoder

Though I may stand corrected - that makes no sense to me at all!

Can you confirm the files are WMA V2 using foobar or some other tool?

No WMA10 is just a colloquial way of referring to the encoder in WMP10.  Its still WMAv2.

Using dbPoweramp it is showing the files as

Codec:   Windows Media Audio 9.2

I installed foobar and it shows Codec Profile as "WMA V2"

It is working great other than i can not seek with in a file.

Post or gmail (mgiacomelli) the V2 file that crashed and I'll take a look at it.

I have a few WMA files, VBR at around 90 kbs, enocded with WMP 10. I have been using Rockbox for nano build r13964-070723. Most of the time I have no problemswith playback, but there are a few tracks that have "scratches" for about 1 - 2 seconds, in random spots. I verified that the files thmeselves are OK by playing them on my PC with WMP and Winamp and they played without those scratches. If it helps, I'll be happy to email you one of the files. Thanks.

Always make sure that whatever issue you're reporting happens with a build from the same day you're reporting it on. The 23rd is well over six days old.

I haven't found a problem with files over 64 kbps in a while.  If you still have the problem with the current version, please post the file here, in the tracker or email it to me if you cannot share it publicly.

Some feedback. Using a Nano 1st gen with yesterday's build I tried some files - VBR around 160k. No idea what encoder. The first file played great. While it played, I used the menu a lot to test the performance. There was no lag at all. After 5-8 minutes skipping started and only a few seconds of each track was played. I tried seeking in one track, after which the skipping got really awful.

After this it was no longer possible to play any track. I got prefetch errors (Prefetch abort at FFFFFCA2) and other error messages (Data abort at 01F04CBC, undefined instruction at 005AFCB4). Booting into Apple mode and returning to rockbox didn't fix this.

With some more testing I could get some mp3 files to play, but only distorted, with the blubbering effect of damaged files.

Deleting Rockbox and installing today's build did not help.

Even after 10 reboots the Nano doesn't work properly.

Anyway, something seriously went wrong here...
CVS r14074-070730

#edit#
After testing for a while falling back to CVS r13749-070701 restored the playback.

saratoga-
I wanted to post the file but it looks like it can't be more than 128k - can I  email the file to you (how would I get your email address?).

Thanks for your assistance.

As I understand, there is no open source WMA Pro/Lossless/Voice decoder available at the moment, only WMA standard. Basically as long the file isn't WMA Pro then it should play using ffmpeg's decoder.
