dual booting with mini 2g
« on: July 02, 2007, 11:01:44 PM »
Okay, if I'm reading this right, there's some bug that causes the mini 2g to not be able to dual-boot using the latest bootloader.  Is this right?  If so, it seems the fix is to install an earlier version.  At least, that's what I'm getting from linuxstb's comment:
"Please be patient - we're working to try and release new COP-enabled bootloaders for the minis and 4g greyscale as soon as we can.  For now, you'll need to stick with the last daily buiild before COP support was added."
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=9147.0

But this was posted back in March, and I can only find archived builds that go back a month.  Is it still the case I need to use an old daily build to make dual booting work on the mini 2g?  If not, am I just doing something horribly wrong?  If I hold MENU and SELECT to reboot, then immediately switch to holding MENU, my iPod just shows the apple logo, followed by the apple logo with backlight, followed by the apple logo with no backlight, etc.  If I let go of MENU, after a bit it will finally reboot into rockbox.

Thanks.

i'm having this same exact problem with my mini 2G, and it's annoying the heck out of me. If the fix is to install an earlier version, how do we go about doing that, if we already installed the Rockbox?

I don't understand the problem. You can always use Apple's emergency disk mode to replace your build.

Additionally, dual-booting works fine on my mini. Your bootloader is way outdated, there has been a bootloader released after march -- check the download page ...

Sorry for the confusion.  I installed the current version as of about a week ago.  This was the first and only time I've ever installed, so there's no way I could have an old version unless the link to the current build package was screwed up.

I linked to that article because it seemed like it was relevant to the discussion.  If not, then any idea on how I could track down what is causing dual booting to fail on my mini?

Thanks.

Edit:
Maybe this is a documentation issue.  I'm following these directions from the iPodFAQ:
" How to start the original Apple Firmware

Shut the device down by holding PLAY/PAUSE. Then, press MENU or SELECT to boot the iPod. Immediately after doing this, turn on the HOLD switch. "

When I do this, the apple logo appears.  After a couple seconds, the backlight comes in, still with the apple logo.  A couple seconds later and the backlight goes off (still showing the apple logo).  Then there's a longer period, about 10-15 seconds where it just sits there with the apple logo and then the screen goes blank for a second, like it's rebooting.  Then the process starts again.

When I eventually turn off the HOLD switch, it finishes the cycle and reboots into rockbox.
