Firmware to 5.5 80gb question

(1/1)

Yateball:
Hello, I am attempting to extract the contents of the rockbox.zip to my iPod as indicated in the manual.

When I try to put it into the root folder of the iPod I get a message saying "You cannot use a name that begins with a dot ".", because those names are reserved for the system"

Can someone please help me?

Thanks

betamaxman:
When you are extracting, what exactly is the destination that you brows to then extract? 8-)

Yateball:
was trying to extract to just the top level directory where calendars, contacts, and notes resided.... I realize now that i need to find the root folder

however i can't figure out how to make the root folder show up (kind of new to macs)

any more help would be appreciated

EDIT: Got the hidden files to show, got boot loader to install.... now getting "No partition found"!

That IS the root folder.

I'm not a Mac user, but it's my understanding that Macs choke on folders that start with a "."  You might have better luck using the Rockbox Utility to install Rockbox:

Alternately, there are Mac utilities that will unzip the build properly, which you can find by searching the forums.  I wanted to say that one of them is called "Onyx" but I could be wrong.

Chronon:
I think everything works properly if you do it from the command line.
