update database from the command line?

Hi,

I'm a new Rockbox user (80 GB iPod Video, Ubuntu Linux). I must say I'm very happy with Rockbox so far. One question I can't find an answer to in the docs: is it possible to update or re-initialize the database from the command line while my iPod is still connected to my computer?

This would be a better workflow for me. Copy files to device, trigger an update of the db (using the faster processor on the computer, and not using the battery on the player), then eject and go.

Updating in the background after restarting the player, then restarting again when the process finishes, seems awkward.

Not currently no. I believe some people think this is a good feature for RockboxUtility - but so far it's not been implemented.
