Battery life significantly shorter?

Im using an ipod 5.5 gen.  Last night I had the ipod on at my party for less than 3 hours, and it was dead.

Does crossfade kill the battery?  That is the only option I have changed in the past month or so since I noticed really terrible battery life.

If you have crossfade turned on, the CPU has to work harder and will therefore drain the battery more.

But since the ipod is always on full does it really affect it?

Just a thought for the powers that be...I think a useful addition to the Ipod Wiki page would be a brief item along the lines of "Ways to maximize battery life," with a list of settings and things to do that favor battery life over all else.  Some things might be obvious, like setting the backlight to be on for as short a time as possible, but others, like this crossfading question, wouldn't have really occurred to me.   Just a thought.  (and same for wiki pages for other ports as well)

(Yes, I know there's a Battery FAQ, but it seems to be more geared toward the Archos players and hasn't been updated in about 18 months)
