You could always put a 16GB compact flash card in an iPod Mini, or just buy a Sandisk Sansa with more than 2GB of memory
and
a micro SD card slot for future expansion.
EDIT: Spelling

that mod or upgrade you are referring to is on ipod mini... i was referring to iPod Nano that uses NAND memory chip... hhhmmm?.. if ipod mini could work on CF card.. there must be a possibility that an additional NAND chip would work?!.. i don't want to mess my new nano.. i need an old f***d up nano to work on now!.

the mini has a CF interface. If you wanted to transplant a NAND flash chip, you'll probably need a CF card with a CF controller IC that can handle the additional memory.
IIRC, the 2GB nano has an PCB position for another flash memory chip. google it--I think someone's already upgraded the nano flash memory before.

I know you have a Nano currently, but if you have a Rockboxable Nano, you probably bought it used. I also was trying to give you the most viable options for a large capacity flash player.
I mentioned the Mini because it is your easiest option, and you should be able to sell the Nano for enough to cover a Mini with dead hard drive AND a CF card.
I suggest only buying a Mini 2nd Gen, as the first generation Minis use the PP5020, as does the iPod 4G, and currently have crashes due to the frequency scaling bug. The 2G Mini uses a PP5022 and suffers no such problems.
On my local Craigslist 2GB 1st generation Nanos currently fetch (up to) $100, while a Mini with broken HD can be caught for $50 or less. eBay prices are slightly higher, but with a similar spread last time I checked.
I also do not remember seeing someone upgrade a 2GB Nano beyond 4GB. There was that memory-chip stacking hack which claimed 8GB capacity, but it turned out to be a fraud.
So, in conclusion, > 4GB Rockboxable and flash = Mini or Sansa.

thanks soap, the nano i got is new.. you can still buy 1st gen nano here NIB!.. Sansa is quite rare here in the Philippines and iPod here is everywhere, you can find them on any malls or shops here, i got Nano for it's size and weight though the screen is fairly small but clear.. is the ipod mini comes in colored lcd?.. cause i like watching mtv on my nano.. it's just that the memory capacity is not enough for me.. and i was just too excited to buy the nano to rockboxed, only to find out that there was 4GB or 8GB nano
