Formatting the h340
« on: July 11, 2007, 02:38:16 PM »
Would it be OK to format the h340, as long as i backup h300.hex?  Should I format it as FAT or FAT32 or NTFS?  I'm assuming NTFS, but better to be safe than sorry.

h300.hex is just to patch the firmware. Once the deed is done, you don't really need it. But back it up anyway.

And format your device as FAT32. Rockbox doesn't work on any other file system.

My guess is maybe he's preparing his player for a new installation and wanted to know how to.

Like I said though, that's just a guess.

Presuming you're using windows I would suggest NOT using compuapps swissknife to format your HD fat32. instead use fat32format. I have had horrible blue screen experiences with swissknife under winxppro. Fat32format works (for me) like a charm every time. Just like Colt 45.

Actually, for my Linux box, this little baby does the trick:

http://gparted.sourceforge.net/

GPartEd is also available in a LiveCD version, meaning you can boot your PC with it to format any device. This allows you to select the required FAT32 file system for Rockbox and format your player 1, 2, 3!
