H140 Whacked! Please offer any ideas?
« on: June 27, 2007, 10:43:15 PM »
I've got a relatively new (4 months!) Iriver H140 purchased on EBay from Digigood. Rockbox install went fine. A few weeks ago it started skipping out on songs. Then it wouldn't boot sometimes. Now it won't boot.
The screen light will come on, but no info on screen.
Frequently have to use the reset.
USB mode still works.
I ran scandisk (XP style)
Extracted latest rockbox.zip into root.
Still not able to boot in either mode.
Any ideas or procedures called for?
After cruising the search hits in this forum for a while, I'm stuck!

I doubt that this will help (no techie here), but have you opened the unit up to see if anything is loose, etc.?  For certain problems, re-seating the hard drive has helped (altho it doesn't sound like that is your problem here--but why not try?).

I must admit
I be afeared to pull that little guy apart!

My fingers are big and pudgy, more fit for heavy lifting and and hunting/gathering endeavors!

Thanks for the gitup, tho-
I'll hunt and gather my jewelers screwdriver set and see what evolves!

Make sure you have the right screwdrivers for the job.

Specifically, you'll need a T6 Torx screwdriver to open up the case.

If my memory serves me correctly, I believe it is a T5 torx actually.

If nothing helps, formatt it with swissknife.
i had also had a problem with starting up, my player freesed in boatloader screen.
I format it with swissknife (fat32) and it was running.

Hopefully it works for you, Greets

I would suggest using fat32format rather than swissknife.

I've encountered blue screens of death using Swissknife under win XP pro on two separate and distinct systems while attempting to format USB drives to FAT32.

I've never had a problem ever since I switched to FAT32FORMAT.

Yep, I also got BSOD on XP with Swissknife every single time I tried to use it.  I would also recommend FAT32FORMAT over Swissknife.
