Album art - do you have to compile separately for each album (gigabeat)?

(1/2) > >>

tman:
I would like to have album art support for my Rbx'd gigabeat (yellow-jacket WPS looks like it would be nice) and I know from doing some initial research that I'd have to do some sort of compiling (I admit I don't even know exactly what that is at the moment), but before I get into it I'd just like to know if this would involve doing this for every album separately (in which case I'll probably pass), or is it a one-time thing that needs to be done after which album art will appear for all albums (in which case I'd do it). (Most of my music was ripped using EAC which includes ID3 tags).

Is album art support/patch on the horizon in the forseeable future?

AlexP:
You patch the build, so you only need to do it once, but you need to do it everytime you upgrade rockbox.

A patch alters the rockbox source code, after that you compile the source to build rockbox.

Album art will be in rockbox as soon as someone writes it in a way that meets requirements.  That could be tomorrow or ages.  Rockbox is written by volunteers in their spare time, so it'll be done when it is done.

Chronon:
There's plenty of information on the wiki about compiling.  As well, there's a forum dedicated to this.

Look here for some starting points in the wiki: For Developers

Thanks. Just wanted to know a little about what I was in for. I'll check out the wiki.

I know that Rockbox is a volunteer effort - I wasn't complaining (if it seemed like it), just wondering if anyone knew if album art support it was imminent.

No, I know, and I wasn't trying to remprimand you!  :D  I was just saying that due to the nature of the project no-one ever estimates times for anything.
