Ipod Photo Battery Life
« on: June 25, 2007, 10:59:18 PM »
Hello, I'm thinking of buying an ipod photo and putting rockbox on it but i'm worried about the battery life. I've already read the battery runtime reports however they did not say how long .mpg videos will play for. If anyone has an ipod photo/color and could tell me that would be very useful. Thank you

An iPod 4th gen "photo" is not an ideal movie player.
18fps fullscreen, 25 fps widescreen...
If you're buying used with the ability to choose you should be looking at a Gigabeat F series - same price if not less.
If you're buying used and don't have a choice...does movie playback time make or break the decision?

well i'm lookin on ebay and thought i'd get a photo cuz its about $100 less than a video, now i'm seeing that a gigbeat is about the same... it looks like a pretty nice mp3 player and it looks like the battery lasts a while

do games and other applications or plugins ever get screwed up due to the fact that the screen is vertical? Also, is the movie pretty nice i mean it doesn't have ff or rewind but is it ok to work with?

Most of the plugins I've actually tried on the gigabeat work fine with the screen the way it is. Some of them require you to spin the DAP through 90 degress (such as the movie player) but that's no biggy really.

Movie playback on the Gigabeat is the best movie playback experience you can get on Rockbox hands down.
