how do i update my rockbox firmware?

i wanted to update my rockbox firmware for a reason that i cannot play the game doom, i've downloaded the doom wad on doom folder (/.rockbox/doom), but everytime i try to play the game the demo always appear!.. and i can't seem to find rockboy, another question, if i update/change my rockbox firmware (ver. 13660-07617) will i loose my settings?.

i'm using 5G 30GB iPod Video.

yes i did, it's the ROLO right?!... and it says..
 
"Rockbox is able to load and start another firmware file without rebooting. You just “play” a file with the extension .ipod. This can be used to test new firmware versions without deleting your current version"

so this means that i have to download a new firmeware, extract it on my DAP then, what's next? ... i'm sorry but it is really not that clear for me on how use it.

No.  ROLO is just a loader.  To update the firmware you can just extract a fresh rockbox.zip onto your player (root directory).

ok, so if i extract the new rockbox zip, it will come out as .rockbox folder, will this overwrite my previous one and reset all my settings?

Updating Rockbox is covered in the installation section of the manual here:

ROLO is not needed for updating. It is more of a feature for developers.

"Download a Rockbox build. (The latest release of the Rockbox software will always be available from http://www.rockbox.org/download/). Unzip the build to the root directory of your player like you did in the installation step before. If your unzip program asks you whether to overwrite files, choose the “Yes to all” option. The new build will be installed over your current build."

ok got it... but doing this procedure, will this remove all my saved, themes, backdrops, wps and fonts?

No.  Those things are not part of the default build.
