« on: June 25, 2007, 02:23:35 PM »
hey i got the rockbox firmware on my f20 back in feburary and now i decide to update the mpeg player because there is rebuffering now. so anyway i've tried reinstalling the whole rockbox firmware and just the plugin and everytime i try to play a video with any  type of the new updated firmware it says "format not supported" yet if i put the old rockbox firmware back on my vids works again. btw the vids were converted using VLC at 320x240

Firstly : Never upgrade just a plugin - always upgrade the whole rockbox install. There's a reason we ship it as a complete zip file and not as seperate components, and that's because they're designed to work together - all components at the same version.

Secondly : Are you old movies in the .m2v format ? Or are they in the current .mpeg format ?

yea that makes sense not to update just the plugin but i've tried everything and running out of options to do. they were .avi files converted into .avi.mpg

Did you try converting them using the WinFF program that Llorean wrote a guide for ?

I use VLC.  The batch file seems fairly convenient.  It's pretty easy to edit the settings if you want to change bitrate, resolution, etc.

it says "format not supported"

Can you double check this error - it's not in the rockbox source code - so we're not sure where it comes from...

yea sorry bad memory of the error. it was actually "incompatible version" this is with the whole firmware updated.

"Incompatible Version" implies that the whole firmware was not updated.  This error is referring to the mpegplayer plugin, not to the movie file.
Ensure that the only copy of rockbox.gigabeat is inside your .rockbox folder (was it ever in the root of the player on the Gigabeat?), and double check that you have fully extracted a current build - overwriting all existing files.
A common mistake people make in this situation is to either not overwrite all files, or to extract a current .zip file into their .rockbox folder creating a new .rockbox nested inside their old .rockbox - where it won't be found by the firmware.

You probably have an old rockbox.gigabeat in the root. Please remove this file and update the bootloader to the latest version:
