noise

(1/1)

dei34:
if I start to play mp3 files on my Sansa e250 right after Rockbox boots,
there is an annoying background "white noise". I noticed that it disappears if I reduce the volume to the minimum, and then put it back to normal. Is that a known bug?

I don't think so. I'm hearing some "electrical noise" while rockbox is loading a song but it is very faint and goes away during playback.

I don't have static background noise as you describe it.

Does this only happen on the first file you play after boot? What if you stop playback (hold "play") and then select another song?

dei34:
yes, if I wait long enough (it depends, sometimes 10-20 seconds) the noise goes away. Pausing one song and starting another does not affect it (it there were no noise -- it would not appear, if it were noisy -- it says noisy). Another way to reproduce it --  is to rewind for about 20 seconds, but it does not always work (strangely, fastforward does not start the noise).

But anyway, even if this noise can be eliminated in one way or another, is it still a bug?

P.S. I don't know if it is specific to mp3, since I don't have other types of soundtracks to check it.

nls:
Sounds to me like, the noise is only present while rockbox buffers music from flash to ram.

but in this case we would have static noise each time we start a new soundtrack. From my observations, it is true only for the first one (or after rewinding).
