Ipod 5G: Spindown enable/disable
« on: June 24, 2007, 04:00:58 AM »
Well I would like to know if it is possible to completly disable spindown?

If not, is it possible to add this option to the spindown menu in rockbox either by a patch or adding it myself? If the latter, can someone guide me in the direction I need to go?
The reason for this is very simple. I would rather change the battery then the drive, since both are stressed by this feature, but where the battery is simple to replace the drive isn't.

Thanks

Drives are designed to be spun up and down, it's what they do.

If you run with the drive permanently spinning, I'd have thought you would also have to be on permanent external power, unless you only want a battery life of a couple of hours :(

Not too mention, as far as I'm aware, permanently spinning a drive *reduces* its life.
