Got an F10 pretty much ready to go for you. As you said you've attempted the recovery procedure, I'm assuming you are reasonably comfortable disassembling/assembling a Gigabeat, right? My plan is to send you only the basic frame & circuit board, display, cross, battery, & HDD. So you'd have to provide the top / bottom / left /right plastic pieces from your dead F10 plus the front & back (including the tiny screws).
Is that okay?

i don't feel comfortable at all.. but i could try.. i'm sure its easy.. if i've tried the recovery procedure i'm sure i can disassemble/assemble. i'll take one part out at a time and assemble it the same way... i can give it a try and if i need any help i'll let you know! :)

pretty sure the hardware is fried. an unregulated 9v adapter is actually 12V+ when not much power is being drained from it, and the charger chip can only take 6V max. If you've got an electronics friend, the charger chip isn't the really-absurdly-impossible to solder kind (BGA), so it could be possible to replace the chip.

a very weird thing just happend.... after not messing with my mp3 player in a long time i decided to try to see if it would connect to my pc.. the gigabeat started loading (with the usb cable connected to it) and about half way, it goes to a different screen saying "Bootloader USB Mode" and my PC installed the drivers correctly and i restarted my computer.. when i logged back onto my pc and went into my computer, i saw the drive (G:\) and tried to access it, i got an error: "The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." So I tried right clicking the drive so I could go to properties, but when I right clicked, My Computer froze for about 5 minutes and when it unfroze the right click menu didn't show up so I tried again, and it froze again. I disconnected the mp3 player by first doing the 'safely disconnect' thing at the bottom right. I then turned the mp3 player off. Turned it back on and now it won't connect to the pc anymore.
now, what makes me confused is, why would it start working after it not working for a week?.. now its doing the same thing before where it doesn't load at all and my pc doesn't read it anymore.
i got my hopes all high and stuff, and then my hopes dropped back down. damn technology! :)
