Well if you keep this the dumbest thing you'll ever do, you'll end up with a fairly decent life. Seriously, people do make mistakes. You're far from the only person who's plugged the wrong adapter in, hoping or assuming it will work.

Fortunately, relative to iPods and other "popular" players, the Gigabeat F series are relatively cheap. They're still not in the "chicken sandwich" price range, but it ought to be replaceable if all else ends up failing.

yeah, i actually was searching amazon.com (where i bought my mp3 player from) yesterday and found the same gigabeat i have for only $129.99 (and i bought mine for $159.99) and i also saw a gigabeat s for i think it was $148 but it was used... the thing is, i don't have any money right now and i won't have any for a while.

it sucks cuz i listened to my mp3 player allllll the time.. so now i'm gonna be extremely bored and instead of listening to my mp3 player, i'm gonna have to watch stuff on my portable dvd player.. i'm gonna end up watching the same stuff over and over haha.

anywho.. thanks to everyone that has replied to the thread. i just wish there was a fix for this. bah!

I paid way less for a new F20 on ebay.  I'd check there first.

HawkSlayer,

I have a few "cosmetically challenged" F10's lying around. So long as you don't care if it's got some scratches/dents/etc., I'd be happy to send you one free (you pay shipping, probably $5 or so if you're in the continental US).

Let me know.

Could be bad news. Spin-click cycles often mean a dead HDD.

it didn't do this yesterday though.

also, i think the error was 00020003 cuz i just got it again.. i might have read the 2 as a 3.

if its a bad hdd, i'm screwed cuz as i've said, i can't afford to buy a new mp3 player till at least a few months or so....

elborak, could you still send a gigabeat f10 to me so i can just see if it works?

edit: k guys, i think its the entire thing thats destroyed.. in device manager, i tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers and i get an error saying "This device cannot start. (Code 10.)". i think that means the hdd is dead. i guess i'm screwed.

You still have a working cradle & charger, right? I'll send you a replacement F10 including HDD. It may be a cosmetic horror, but it'll work. And if you replace the plastic with the pieces from your dead one, you should be as good as new.

Hopefully you have a backup of your music on your computer.

yes, i have a working cradle and charger. dude you're the best!

well, i don't have a backup of my music but i have most of it on 2 of my harddrives... and whats funny is on the day i did this whole thing to my mp3 player, i was in winamp and i saved my artist/tracklisting to html format so i think i should be able to find the rest and if i don't, i can just find new music to add to it!  :P

i really appreciate everyone here willing to help a stranger out.. you guys are the nicest people i've come across on the internet.

My son just came back from camp with the same error message. So after reading all your posts, I guess I need to first of all replace the battery?

Also the person who had a couple of F10s laying around, I would be interested.

Thanks

try the recovery procedure first... follow it carefully...
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/GigabeatFXPort#Gigabeat_Recovery_Procedures

its supposed to work most of the time.. it didn't work for me because i basically destroyed mine by trying to charge my gigabeat with a portable dvd player charger.

HawkSlayer,

Got an F10 pretty much ready to go for you. As you said you've attempted the recovery procedure, I'm assuming you are reasonably comfortable disassembling/assembling a Gigabeat, right? My plan is to send you only the basic frame & circuit board, display, cross, battery, & HDD. So you'd have to provide the top / bottom / left /right plastic pieces from your dead F10 plus the front & back (including the tiny screws).

Is that okay?
