iTunesDBtoTagCache Not Working
« on: June 22, 2007, 05:05:30 AM »
I've converted my itunesDB file and the program has output 6 (0-5) tagcache_X.tcd files and a tagcache_idx.tcd file. i've renamed them all to database_X.tcd files and replaced my current rockbox database files with these.  but when i boot rockbox and go into the database menu it says my database is not ready and wants me to re-initialize it.

Is this App no longer current?  or is there some trick i don't know.

thank you
-Justin

Correct - it's very very old and doesn't work any more.

You also don't need it - just use Rockbox to create it's own Database from your iTunes loaded music.

yea, thats what i currently do.  I was just looking for a faster way to do it. It takes a good 10 minutes for my ipod video to generate a new database with all my music in it.  Oh well, its not that big of a deal, i suppose i can wait. thanks for the reply, i was going insane with that thing anyway.

The database code has #ifdefs to support being able to get built for a stand-alone "PC tool" (run "make database" in tools/) but last I heard it wasn't building perfectly.

With some adjustments I bet that is a good start to make a  fine host-side tool for Rockbox database support.

and if someone finds the time to start coding this, it would be nice to integrate it into rbutil :-)

I thought about that too but don't have the time.  I suppose for an alternative to that you could just run the simulator and point it to the directory of your music. The simulators speed isn't limited to what the actual players CPU speed/HD speed, right?

Right, but still the simulator cannot build a database on my computer. It just says "Building database ... 0 found" and stays there.

Yeah there's something weird about the database in the simulator. I find if you clear out all the database files from your /archos/.rockbox directory then it usually builds okay in the simulator. It seems to get confused if there's any incompatible files there.

It builds, then tells me to "reboot to enable". However, upon reboot the database is not committed and I'm stuck with just the database_tmp.tcd file.
