You dont open the file, you simply delete the original. Go to the wiki page, right click and save as the new file and replace it where the original file was.

So try again and follow the instructions more carefully.

(For example, it is an .xml file, not an .xlm file.)

I have no idea what you're talking about.  Would you please take the time to write posts that clearly describe what you have done, what you are trying to do, and what the problem is?  For example, in your last post, what do you mean by "only when its under 'video only'"?

First of all, you don't say which program you are using to convert the files.  I assume you are using WinFF, because you asked questions earlier about how to save the WinFF presets.xml file.  If that is the case, then I don't see the options you are referring to.  Perhaps you didn't properly save the presets.xml file.  If you are using the presets, you will see options like "Apple Nano 4:3."  All you need to do is select the correct preset for your player and hit "Convert."

This is how it is described in the wiki:

Quote
2) After the program is installed, replace the presets.xml in the WinFF folder (default is C:\Program Files\WinFF\) with this one: presets.xml

Basically, what you need to do is right-click on the preset.xml link on the wiki page.  Select "save file as ..."  Navigate to the place where WinFF is installed on your computer.  As the wiki page notes, the default folder is C:\Program Files\WinFF\ so unless you installed it to a different place, look for that folder.  Save the presets.xml file there.

Now, exit WinFF (if you have it running) and re-start it.  Look for the drop-down menu called "Choose Format to Convert To ..."  If you properly installed the presets.xml file, you should have a list that starts with "Apple Ipod Nano 4:3" and contains a number of other Rockbox-support platforms.

Since you appear not to have followed ANY of the step-by-step instructions that I wrote for you, I can't help you further.

You do NOT need to open anything, select all, or cut and paste.  RIGHT-CLICK on the presets.xml link and then do what I described in my last post.

I feel your pain, Febs.

He said multiple times just to save it to the right directory.  It will ask if you want to overwrite the existing presets.xml file (and you should say yes).  There's no opening the files and cutting and pasting involved in anything that he said.

All you're doing is replacing one file on your computer with another one that's posted in the wiki.  If you can't manage to do that then I doubt that any of us will have much success in guiding you through this remotely.

Apparently something must have gotten mucked up in the presets file then.  How did you save the file?

Just re-install WinFF. Don't bother replacing the presets file because i dont think that you will be able to. You just need to convert all your files to Mpeg 2, and define everything else.
