File Name Display RockBox for iRiver H120
« on: June 20, 2007, 01:06:42 AM »
Can anybody help me....A long time ago, I made the mistake of labeling all my music by right-clicking each file and "renaming" it, instead of putting in all the real info. On the old Firmware, the names of the folder and file are displayed while the file is playing. But in the new firmware, it's all just "Unknown". Is there any way I can get it to display it like I want? Thanks!

Use the file browser rather than the database.

That helps when choosing which song I want...but when the WPS comes up, everything is unknown.

For the WPS, it's entirely the responsibility of the author. Whichever WPS you've chosen to use most likely ignored the suggested method of displaying the filename when the title is not available, etc, and chose to just attempt to use the tags.

You have a couple options. Pick a WPS that supports filenames, or read the CustomWPS wiki page and modify your current one to work properly.

Click the wiki link on the left bar, and type CustomWPS into the "Go" box at the top of the new page.

Would it be easy for you to describe how to customize my WPS to do what I want? I'm not very good with all this...

See the iCatcher wps, in particular how it displays %it or %fn.

In that case you'd be much better off going through and re-tagging your files properly. If you gone through and given them all nicely descriptive file names, then this should be easy - since there are a lot of tagging programs out there that can take bits of the file name and put it in the right places in the tagging structure. Then you won't have to bother re-writing your WPS.

...and your files would be in a much more useful state than they are currently in and you could start using the Database...

MP3Tag has very good filepath>tag functionality.

Easier said than done....I have close to 100 Jewish CD's (that I can't just get tag info from the web for) and it would take forever to go and name them all. If anyone could please give me clear directions on how to make the WPS like I need it, that would be awesome. Otherwise, I'm going to have to get rid of RockBox :-( and I really don't want to!
