rockbox player
gigabeatbox:
ok so i know this sounds crazy, but what if there were to be a rockbox mp3 player, as in a mp3 player made by rockbox. i was thinking it might b like a cool mp3 player w/ a lot of features and then an open-source rockbox firmware w/ really easy to download / install updates like the rockbox firmware...but idk it would take a lot of volunteer work, but then all of the profits would go to rockbox development!! well i dont know but some feedback would be interesting, see what everyone else thinks...

It would be a lot easier to just get Apple to sell 10,000 iPods (at a discount) to the Rockbox team with the Rockbox logo engraved on the back. They could do something like HP did with iPods. An interesting idea.

ahh that would work as well, i guess because a player that has many of the features rockboxers would want as well as rockbox would cost quite a bit of money, ipod w/ rockbox on the back would work quite well...but rockbox would have to probably come up with an entirely new version without bugs for ipods, and that might cause them to completely disregard other ports...although since rockbox is also somewhat (idk how to say it) supported (?) by its users and volunteer programmers, if there were still enough volunteer programmers for each port it might be fine...and if there was a certian version bug-free for iPods, then each 'official' patch for the rockbox ipods would have to be bug free as well, or the tech support would be a nightmare...there are a lot of things that would have to be worked out

Ha. That'll be the day when Apple actually does something to create a really practical product instead of a product for Mac snobs. You know, hardware and software that supports something other than mp3 and Apple's crappy compression format...goooood luck.

There's already a post with this idea in it in the "New Ports" forum.
