Cannot move Rockbox files onto iriver!! HELP ME! 20gb H10

ok i downloaded Rockbox and extracted it. then i tried to move the .rockbox folder into the system folder of my h10. and it errors and says cannot move here the path is to steep! wtf!! and then i tried directly extracting into the root folder and winrar chucked a psyche and then had the same error. ive tried it in both ums and wateva the other one is. someone help me

You don't put it in the system folder. Please read the manual.

but i cant put them anywhere on the iriver it gives me the same error. where is the root folder then!?

The root folder is a common computing term. It's the lowest level of the drive. For example, the root folder of the C drive is C:\

ok well even so it wont let me copy the files to G:\ (root directory) anyway so yeah.  still the same error

Well, try a program other than Winrar. In all honesty, Rockbox isn't on your player yet, and all you're doing right now is copying a file to it. If it's not working yet, it's a problem you're having either with your 'tools' (WinRAR) or your player.

i tried unzipping with a program called cam unzip and it just errored as well so i guess its a problem with my player but what is the problem. is there an option for me to take off the protection against files being copied or something like that....?

well, have you though about the possibility of trouble with the filesystem on your player, which should be fixable by running chkdsk /f? Can you extract the zip file to some other location (i.e. on your PC -- have you ensured your extraction tool is working properly)? Have you tried using the recommended infozip or 7zip tool for extracting?

both my extracting tools are running fine, i can extract to anywhere else. what was that about chkdsk/f??

may I suggest asking google about chkdsk first? It quickly reveals what chkdsk is and does. Like this wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chkdsk

This post may be a tad late, but...  are you making sure the H10 is in UMS mode before copying files to it?  I don't know if that makes much of a difference or not but it's definitely recommended that it's put in UMS mode by holding the select button (the circle button on the right side of the front under the screen) in, then powering the player on with the USB cable attached, then releasing the button when "Emergency Connection" comes up on the screen in the upper left corner.  The 20 GB model by default connects in MTP mode and it's harder to copy files to it unless it's put into UMS mode.

Is it possible that your download is corrupted? Try downloading from scratch.
If you still can't, try putting a different file onto the root of the player. If no file will work, then you have a hardware problem. Give it a try.

Also, extract the files to a folder on your computer's hard drive before you copy them to the H10's disk. I've run into problems trying to extract ZIP files (using WinRAR) directly to the H10 itself, and adding that extra step always fixed it. Hope this helps!
