Weird DÃTÃBÃ~¹.TÃD and CÃNÆIÇ .CÆG files in .rockbox!?
kieran:
Hi Guys,
Firstly, I just want to thank the Rockbox team for such a brilliant project. They've turned my 80gb Ipod into something so much more user friendly than Apple themselves could have ever made it. I owe you some gratitude indeed!
Moving on from this, I do have an issue. Somehow, using the Ipod Video 64mb current builds (I'm not sure when they sprung up - but I've been fairly consistantly updating to latest builds, perhaps once a week/fortnight for the last few weeks at least) I've managed to get some corruption of some sort in my .rockbox folder, and its chewing up my disk space!
Anyway, some files have cropped up in my .rockbox directory that I cannot delete in windows, or even using a dos prompt (and still suing the escape codes for the symbols).
Here is my .rockbox directory:
--- Code: ---J:\.rockbox>dir
Volume in drive J is KIERAN'S IP

I think that CÃNÆIÇ .CÆG is config.cfg and DÃTÃBÃ~¹.TÃD is Database.something
Although I don't care what they are really, its just that each seems to be chewing up 2gb of FAT, and I want them gone. :)
What I've had a couple of times, are freezes. Rockbox keeps merily playing, but the screen freezes, and the ipod controls stop responding. Just a hard reset is the only thing to release the lock-up. I'm not sure if this is what is causing it? As for 'what are you doing when it locks up', the answer is 'just playing mp3 music'. I've never seen it do it on the same song twice, so I don't think its mp3 specific.
I have my ipod on for hours on end at work, so rockbox gets a pretty thorough workout, and for the most part its fine. These lockups might be causing these mysterious files to be dumped, but I dont know. The thing is, I can't copy, delete, rename or do anything with these files. I can't even delete my .rockbox directory and start again, because I cannot delete those huge files which reside within my .rockbox dir. So I'm stuck!
If anyone has any ideas, help or tips, I'd love to hear them!!
cheers,
Kieran
GodEater:
chkdsk.
That's a corrupt file system that is.
nls:
Try checking the filesystem with chkdsk/scandisk or an equivalent tool.
You could also try deleting the files in rokbox.
petur:
trying to delete won't help a thing, your filesystem is corrupted. If chkdsk doesn't help and you do not have a backup, try to copy as much from the player as possible and reformat (FAT32).
This can/will happen if you remove your device without performing unmounting/safe remove hardware. If you think this is not the case, file a bugreport. But you're the first to report this problem....
kieran:
Hi Guys,
I managed to sort it with a chkdsk which I worked out myself the same night. I deleted the 'files' as much as I could, but kept getting rockbox *panic* errors - probably because there were not files, but misreported MFT fragments. The drive was horribly crosslinked, and I didn't seem to lose anything.
Its funny, I've never had an issue with pulling my ipod from the pc without dismounting ever before when just using the normal apple os.. Rockbox file handling must be more picky? I guess no other 80gb ipods have ever done this.. ?
anyway, thanks for helping.
best regards,
kieran
