Agreed, however sometimes permissions get fudged when something that was mounted and modified in another linux system is mounted again in another, saved FF profiles can do this when used in another linux install. It might be as he said because his rockbox was installed in another linux distro.  8-)

Well, the best bet is for him to check its properties then, and see both what the permissions are set at, and if there's anything interesting under the Drive and Volume tabs that give him a clue.
