5th gen ipod video 30gb having difficulties
« on: June 13, 2007, 10:52:25 PM »
Okay. I have a 30gb ipod video and recently found Rockbox. And i wanted to try it out, right? Okay, I did every direction that the manual directed me to do. When i boot my ipod to rockbox, I setup a database and i found out how to boot back into the the original firmware. I saw that the space on my drive is full, hehe ( cause i got 4k of songs), and i didnt find any music in the music menu as i did before. However, when i boot the ipod to rockbox, i can find the music with no problem.

Anyone got a suggestion to this problem?

Something is screwed up in the Apple firmware.  Try google, theres tools that can rebuild it's database.

If you use Linux you can use 'gtkpod' to build the Apple DB and never have to touch their firmware again. If you are on Windows then I don't see any reason why iTunes couldn't correct this, from what I've seen Rockbox doesn't damage anything that iTunes needs to access.

Once I installed Rockbox, I had 0 use for Apple firmware for audio...it doesn't even know I have a single song on my player. I only use it for video (I have iPod 5G) so the playback is a little better that way but 10x more picky to encode.
