Sansa Safe?

(1/3) > >>

Tbull727:
Hey I'm New to the forums I downloaded rockbox to my sansa e260 and was reading that it was still in beta form is that just an old post???? Or is there a large chance i'm gonna brick my player????

Llorean:
It's not really in "beta". It's just not in "release" or "stable" form. There's not really an appropriate word for it, though, so many people like to use beta. As long as you actually follow the instructions in the manual, there is no known risk of bricking your player. You would have to do something specifically strange with tools or files other than those we provide to manage to brick it, or even get it to a point where it can't play music.

Tbull727:
So dont screw around with the folder and i'm good?

JdGordon:
no, the "dangerous" part if installing the custom bootloader, which as long as you follow the instructions and only use our files you will be fine.

once you have the bootloader your fine, you can even delete the .rockbox folder and you are still safe from bricking it (I and noone else wold suggest doing this though)

Vortex:
It seems at least 90% of the people who bricked their Sansa messed around with Recovery Mode without knowing what they were doing.

As long as you keep to the instructions in the manual there is no risk of bricking your player. And even if you do brick it there are ways to recover your player (depending on how you bricked your player, the recovery procedure can be rather complicated, though).

If you ever have Problems with your player I suggest you keep to the information in the wiki or these forums, but double-check any advice you find here. In any case do not drop files onto your player in Recovery Mode unless you know _exactly_ what you are doing. :)
