"Browser" function on "H320 US"
« on: June 18, 2007, 02:06:51 PM »
Hi
I just bought an iRiver H320, US version. The firmware is 1.04 which I believe is the latest. I read on iRiver.com that it isn’t possible to upgrade to EU/Korean/Japanese firmware on a US player.
So my question is… is this possible or not?

My final goal is to transfer pictures from my new Fujufilm F31fd digital camera to my player (without use of PC that is). I read that this isn’t supported on US players, as it doesn’t have the “Browser” function. Can this be done somehow?

Any help would be much appreciated  :)

Edit:
I just found this site http://forum.hardware.fr/hfr/VideoSon/Materiel/peut-videos-h320-sujet_104122_1.htm
I dont understand french so I dont know if it will help me in any way. Although it looks like he made it work...

Never mind what the iriver site says. You can update your firmware to use the international versions, but just bear in mind that doing this will permanently render the player useless for DRMed music. You also need to use an international firmware in order to be able to install the Rockbox bootloader; the U.S. firmware versions won't work.

I never really used the USB-OTG function on the iriver H300 series (my girlfriend has one but she doesn't bother with it either), but I can say that USB-OTG support isn't in Rockbox yet, but it may be soon. How soon, I can't say.

Damn fast reply.. thank you very much  ;)
Well I dont really care about DRM music... If I get it right that is.
DRM music is music bought form the net... Napster etc. right? Nothing else..?!

When you say its permanent, do you mean that I cant change back to US firmware?

As far as i know the US players have different hardware, so installing an international firmware isn't enough to make USB OTG work on an US model.
But i think there is a hardwaremod to enable the USB OTG functionality.
You schould have a look at the forums on www.misticriver.net

What exactly does/did this have to do with Rockbox?

Well... I see now that my question has nothing to do with Rockbox... sorry for taking up you time.

I started searching google for answers, and I found my way to this forum. I thought that I might need Rockbox to install other firmware than US  :-[

No, you don't need to, but installing Rockbox will give you much more functionality and flexibility than the iriver firmware can ever offer.

Since you did make your way here anyway, why not take the plunge? Your iriver will thank you later.  ;D

Can you quickly sum up what features I will get or is that to much to ask ? :D
You could probably persuade me in no time  ;)
Thought I have to deal with this OTF (OTG) issue first...
