iPod 80gb use via dock - rebooting instead of shutting down when paused
« on: June 12, 2007, 05:23:28 PM »

I use my Rockbox'd 80gb iPod at work quite a bit.  It sits in a universal dock connected to a headphone amp used to driver more power headphones than I use when commuting.

Anyhow... when playing music it works fine... however often I'll pause the player for one reason or another...

With the Rockbox firmware if it sits for a period... instead of shutting down like the iPod did it will do a full reboot... if I continue to let it sit it will do another reboot after more time passes.  This will continually keep happening.

I think it's trying to shut down, but for some reason (because it's attached to the dock I imagine) it restarts itself up.

Not sure where *issues* are documented so I figured I'd post a message here.

See the word "Bugs" at the left? But this isn't a bug.

The Apple firmware actually keeps running, but shuts off the screen, when plugged in. Because the iPod can't turn off while power is connected, it's just a "feature" of the hardware.

Hmmm... ok... would there be a way to prevent it from auto-shutting down when power is connected then?

Fix the problem where Rockbox doesn't actually recognize that it's charging, or simply turn off idle poweroff.

Both would be good... I don't ask for much huh?   ;D

Idle poweroff is essential when you're not on charge so it would need to know that it's charging to know whether to turn off idle poweroff.

Many people find that they can actually use a power button, and don't see idle poweroff as essential.

I take it this means you won't be contributing by working on the problem? There are more "things that could be done" than there are "people working on them" so until someone takes an interest for this, you may be stuck simply fully disabling idle poweroff and using a power button.

I didn't know there was an idle poweroff option... that works for me in the interim.
