Bad Sound and not Full Screen - ROMs.
« on: June 11, 2007, 10:09:24 AM »
Hey all. I'm new here because I just installed Rockbox onto my 80gb iPod Video yesterday and i'm loving it. Doom is awesome fun! Anyways, I put some ROMs onto my iPod today, and when the played them, they were not fullscreen like Doom, but only half the size of the screen? Also, the sound quality was very, very bad, It just sounded all crinkly and stuff. Any Ideas on how to fix this? If it can't be fixed, it doesn't matter, I can still play the game!  :D

If it's Game Boy ROMs that you're playing, then that behavior's normal at the time. Rockboy is still at less than perfect performance on most of the PortalPlayer-based systems (e.g. iPods, Sansa, and the iriver H10). I get the same performance, but it also depends on what you play. Here's an example list of what to expect on Rockboy:

Great performance: Many early Game Boy games (Alleyway, Tennis, Qix)
Fair performance: Games that push the system harder (Mega Man, Pokémon, Super Mario Land 2)
Terrible performance: Game Boy Color games (any of them)

Because of the slow speed, it's best to shut the sound off. As for the full screen issue: start Rockboy by picking a game in your File View, then click the hold switch (to access the Rockboy menu). Go to Options > Screen Options > Scaled (for full screen) or Scaled - Maintain Ratio (for a larger view but keeping the original resolution.

Hope this helps out.

Ahh ok, that's no problem. But now I do have a bad problem, which if I can't fix I will be very unhappy. The game won't save!!! When I was playing pokemon (legal verison), I went into the menu, pressed save, and it said it was saving. Then it said "MATT has saved the game!", so I turned off the iPod (menu+select). A few hours later when I went back into the game, the "Load Game" option was not there? So my Game hadn't saved! Help!!  ???

Do you mean you held Menu+Select to reboot the iPod? If so, it's very unlikely the save got written. You need to properly exit the plugin and shut down.

You could, if you want your iPod to run so slow that a snail on happy pills would get frustrated.

To put it simply: no, you can't.
