please help me out.
« on: June 09, 2007, 09:44:21 PM »
everytime i try to install cygwin, it stays at 99% on No Package etc/postinstall/post-textmf.sh and it wont advance any further to finish. I have an iriver h120 with Mmmm custom build, but i just bought a h115 that i need to match up to my h120 with the same plugins.

I would really appreciate any help with this installation problem.

Cygwin isn't really our software, you're better off asking the Cygwin project for support installing it.

okay. I tried contacting someone over there, but i am having no luck. Man, i just really need to get this patch added to the latest build for the ihp-115.

I am guessing a million people ask for others to do custom builds for them, but really, if possible i would greatly appreciate it if someone could put together a ihp-115 build with this patch added....

I have literally spend all day trying to get this program to install and i really need to get this build together. i am even willing to pay  someone like 5 bucks to do it.

thanks,

josh

Hey, tried to make a build for you but it appears that the patch is out of sync with the current code.  I tried to apply the patch manually but it's not a simple patch and so I had to give up--perhaps someone else will have better success.  Good luck!

edit:  Regarding the 99% hang:  If I recall correctly, I had that on occasion in the past as well; using a different mirror seemed to solve the issue.

Thanks for trying Mikerman, i really appreciate the effort.

I guess i will try again tomorrow, i tried other mirrors and had the same problem, it seemed like it downloaded fine, but it was during the installation it was messing up. But i guess since you were having trouble with the patch, i dont know if i can afford to spend another 7 hours trying to get it to work, I'm a busy guy.

But really, thanks for trying. If anyone else wants to try and help me out, give it a go. If someone gets one working i will be eternally grateful, haha, seriously.

I had that same problem with cygwin, you can either change the mirror site or wait. With mine it usually stepped back to 98% for about 10 minutes and then finished. I would reccomend using the vmware image though, it's a lot easier to set up and use.

I think i can do that...been having some trouble with making taking a LONG time (if anybody knows why modification time of certain files e.g. bookmark.c and others is taking so long please let me know). You'll probably want to try to go ahead and get something set up for yourself anyway (i reccomend VMware) just so that you can make your own builds in the future.

thanks so much mschneider, i really appreciate it.

I gave up on cygwin, and have been trying my best to set up vmware in my time in between work.

Yeah, i agree, i want to learn how to use this program,  so i will be able to update it myself in the future, but i just don't think i will have the time to set it all up and hope i don't run into any errors this week for the show i need it for. I mean, i can still run it without this patch, but i have a h120, and just got this h115, and it would be so much more helpful to have the layout and plugins the same on both players while i am trying to record shows.

Thanks again, let me know whenever you get that patched h115 build together and i can give you my email address, or maybe somewhere to host it if the build is large.

thanks!

okay, i got the program running, and got all the way to patching, but i have not been able to get the patch to work at all, i keep getting the same error. Here is an image of what its saying.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v79/guccipingpong/problem.jpg

Even though i am getting a little bit somewhere, mschneider, still try to get a build for me together, because i am not having much luck at the moment.

thanks, Josh

EDIT:

I got it to patch, i changed the folder from the devel one to the rockbox folder svn made.

Is it normal for only some of the Hunks to pass, and some fail, because like only 3/4 of mine passed.

EDIT: Ahhh, im going insane. i got all the way to compiling it, and when i do "make" it goes through this thing where it flies through a bunch of text then comes up saying

make[1]: *** No rule to make target 'main_menu.h', needed by '/home/user/rockbox/build_h115/apps/user_action.o' . Stop.
make:*** [build] Error 2

and if i try to do 'make zip' afterwards, it says some stuff then...

zip error: Nothing to do! (rockbox.zip).

Hope you can get it to work mschneider.

Yep, that's what I was noting above--the patch is out of sync with the code.

You may want to email the patch's author and see if the patch can be synced up.  Or I have found it helpful to put a patch into each folder containing the files to be modified (for the files that wouldn't patch), and then to try running the patch from within each folder.  Or, you can manually go into each file that wouldn't patch and amend the text yourself, adding the lines in the patch marked with pluses and deleting the lines with minuses.

If the files to be changed haven't changed too much, these options might be possible.

i emailed the author, and he said that he does not have the time right now to mess with it and that i would have to find someone else to tweak it. dang, i guess i am out of luck.

Good try!  And that's the unfortunate thing with patches.  Fortunately, I tend to like patches that sometimes work their way in ...
