Well it's *possible* it made something in the iPod go pop too - but I'd still bet the fuse saved it. See if you can find another one - and try a different wall outlet - one that doesn't make things go pop. :)

i fear the ipod could be damaged as it wasn't an genuine apple charger. i must have plugged the ipod into the usb for about 8 hours surely this should be enough to power it up.

Well if you really believe you've damaged the hardware, the only way to tell is to take it to an apple dealer.

Depends on the PC, the USB cable and whether you've really fried your ipod or not.

Technically yes - but so far most users have been lucky, and Apple have nevered bothered checking.
