Let's beat this dead horse...

After you charged your iPod, how did you attempt to turn it on?

tried the play button first, then pressing the menu and select button, and finally the hard reset, menu and select button for 10 seconds and up to 1 minute.

I minute may not be enough time and what i somtimes have to do is hold menu and select try 3 mins or so release if nothing happens wait 30 seconds and repeat eventually it will start but only if it has sufficent charge to start.

Apple's own posted guidelines for a full hard reset are :

Turn on hold switch, turn off hold switch, then press and hold menu+select. Sometimes the menu+select combo is not picked up unless you've done the hold-switch trick first. I know this to be true as I've seen it myself.

Hi all, got it working after all. when you install rockbox the ipod doesn't charge using a usb lead. this has to be configured in the menu. and my wall charger blew up due to a power surge and not because of the ipod. i then bought an apple wall charger and it worked instantly.

rockbox rocks!!

If you put the iPod into disk mode or boot the Apple firmware, it will charge via USB.

This is a complete lie - I charge mine all the time via the USB lead in Rockbox.

Don't be silly. I'm sure it's not a lie, just wrong.
