iPod mini 2nd generation 4Gigs: Bricked after first shutdown

(1/1)

lvlln:
Hi, I just got an iPod mini 2nd gen from my sister, and the first thing I did was to install the latest version of Rockbox onto it, using the helpful manual here as a guide.

At first glance, the install seemed fine, and I tried putting on some music onto it which played perfectly.

I ran the database function, which went through its initialization, after which it told me to restart.  So I did, pressing and holding the play button until it shut down.  This was the first time I actually shut it down after installing Rockbox.

But when I went to turn it back on by pressing select or menu, the screen showed the picture of a battery, and then shut down again.  I don't know what the icons all mean, but it seemed to tell me that the mini might be out of batteries - which doesn't make sense, because it was about 3/4 full and charging through the USB cable for a while.

And now, the mini doesn't respond at all to any button presses.  No combination of actions seems to be able to turn it on.

So, my question is, do I just have a useless brick on my hands now?  If not, what can I try that I haven't yet?  If so, where do you suppose I went wrong in my steps?

Thank you.

Go through the reset procedure:

Turn the hold button on, and then off.

Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the player reboots.  You might need to hold these buttons for as long as 30 seconds.
