Can't play music in rockbox

Whenever I try to play a song in my 5g video ipod with rockbox I get a Data Abort at plus a hexadecimal address.  Most recently 0002FF00.  Then the ipod is unresponsive to any keypress and requires reset.  I have tried updating rockbox with the newest version and it makes no difference.  What is going on?  What should I do?

When did you install or last update your bootloader?

I haven't changed the bootloader since I initially installed rockbox about a year ago.  I don't know how to update it.  Is it necessary?

Yes.  The old bootloader is not compatible with the newer builds.
