RockAA, small tool for downloading album art

RockAA (Rockbox Album Art) is a simple album art downloading tool mainly for Rockbox MP3 players.
It also supports Sansa's original firmware. Support for new MP3 players is easy to add, so if you want your player included just file a feature request over at Sourceforge.

A couple of things that would be nice not sure how hard to implement

1) Change or allow choice of size default album art size is 100*100
2) have file requester remember where the last save was

Might also need to note needs Java runtime to be installed in windows
this was removed in XP sp1!

Agreed...having it be able to resize bitmaps to 100x100 would make it the perfect little app.  Other than that, well done.

Thanks for this! It should make the lives of many users much easier. Thanks for using java, it means us linux users wont have to run it through wine.

I think the resizing to 100x100 should be an option, I use BMP resize and prefer AA in 200x200 or so, as I have a few different sized AA themes.

Maybe this should be added to the album art wiki?

I already thought about making RockAA more flexible by making file format, size and name user defined, but I will be busy with studying for the next weeks so this might take a while. Maybe I'll just release the source code but it's completly undocumented and big parts are a bit chaotic as I didn't really design the program but just started writting

this tool is a nice idea.

And i think if Album Art ever gets official in rockbox, such a tool should be integrated in rbutil.
Only, rbutil is written in C++ with wxwidgets and not java, so a direct port isnt possible, we would have to rebuild it.

This sounds like great work, and could be great for some of the 'nix users that haven't already found ways to get album art.... but there are at least a few other album-art-getting applications out there for Windows. I use this, which lets you simultaneously search (and retrieve thumbnails from) multiple websites.

Update:
RockAA has been rewritten from scratch and released under an open source licence.
You can get the new version at Sourceforge.

For bug reports or feature requests please use the forum or the tracker at Sourceforge, since I won't be watching this thread.

Would be nice if someone could update the link in the Wiki (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/AlbumArt). It seems the registration there is currently not working.

I just noticed that a new version was released and I can't seem to get the user defined saving mode to work.  I also can't seem to tell if it's possible to change the size of the AA.  Anybody have any luck with this in version .6?

Well, I'm still using and developing it
Version 0.6 was released yesterday. It has a new folder scan mode, which allows you to easily add missing album art to your music collection.
User defined saving mode only works with look and feel settings other then "System default". Album art resizing should work.
I'll rewrite saving modes in 0.7, every format will be based on a simple, editable XML definition. So users will be able to create, edit and share save formats.

Ok, for some reason, it just wouldn't work right on my girlfriend's computer.  

Here's a suggestion for the program though.  What I want to have is 1 "master copy" album art for all of my albums.  From this copy I can then do batch conversions in different sizes for different needs (i.e. a 120x120 for cabbie2.0 and a 100x100 for pictureflow).  With your program though, the default download size from what I can tell is 130x130.  I know that you can specify the size you want when you download, but I would like an option where it just downloads at original size.  Then I can handle resizes later as the need arises.
