Question about generations

(1/1)

patach:
Hi,

I'm posting here to clear something up.  I am thinking about purchasing an 80gb video ipod for Rockbox use.  Now, the website says that Generation 5.5 ipods that are 80 gb are now compadible with Rockbox, the thing is, when I asked the Apple store, they announce they only have generation 5.  Is 5.5 a term that was simply recognized as something else?  Will a generation 5 80gb ipod work fine with rockbox now?

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Llorean:
The term "Generation 5.5" refers to the more recent 5th generation iPods. I believe Apple refers to them as something like "Late 2006" iPod Videos, rather than Generation 5.5. But the term came about very quickly after they were introduced, and I don't think there was an official name for them yet.

robin0800:
They are the same thing.
The previous 5 generation was 60 Gb so the 80 Gb is the newer one.
It is expected that the 6 generation will be a completly new player
