Dead iPod [SOLVED]
« on: June 03, 2007, 11:18:14 AM »
Hello all

When I was using one of the plugin games from Rockbox, I had to reboot my iPod nano (didn't knew a key combination to exit the plugin). At that time the battery was nearly fully discharged. When it wanted to reboot it couldn't finish and eventually just stopped trying (I suppose the battery was now fully discharged). Next day I hooked up the iPod with the net charger but after a few hours my iPod still doesn't respond to anything and the screen remains blank.

I've tried to reset it a few times (holding menu+select for about 20-30 secs), with and without toggling the hold button, connected and unconnected with the ac adapter or a PC, but nothing seems to work.

Because it's idle it cannot enter disk mode so I can't use the repair utility or something similar.

Can anyone help me?

I have had a similar problem with my 4g 20g ipod. I found a way to get it to mount to my pc.

Plug you ipod into the wall charger and press the select button, when the apple apears hold the select and play buttons until the ipod displays the CheckMark that indicates that it's ready for disk mode.

Then (quickly) unpluged the wall charger from the ipod and plug in the usb cord that is hooked to the pc.

The ipod then mounts to the pc and you can restore or let it charge or whatever.

When I press select nothing happens, it's completly dead.

Anyway I talked on IRC yesterday and was recommended to leave it for some hours to let it discharge and check if it works afterwards.

EDIT:
Yay! I just pressed select and rockbox booted and quickly shutdown with a low battery message. After that I plugged in the wall charger and it's now charging :)

Thanks to the people who helped me
