Toshiba F40 USB Charging Issue

(1/1)

matheis:
Hello

I plugged my F40 into my usb cable overnight last night.  When I plugged it in, the F40 was as 67% charge and was turned off.  When I unhooked it from the usb cable this morning and tried to turn it on to check to make sure it was charged, it wouldn't turn on.  It required switching the battery off and then on manually to boot the F40.  Once booted, it was at 100% charge.  So it worked, but I had a heart-pounding moment when I thought I had perhaps fried the battery or something.

Should this be happening?  Is there some trick to usb charging that I'm not following?  I like the idea of usb charging, but don't want to have to reset the time/date every time.

Thanks!
Nikolaus

I think you are experiencing the problem noted my me in this thread.

No further news as yet...

similar to your problem, although i didn't have mine in bootloader usb mode.  i had mine turned off while plugging it in, while it was plugged in, and while removing it.  so mine shouldn't have been recognized by my computer and shouldn't have needed any kind of ejecting procedure.  i'm running linux, and the f40 didn't show up as a mounted drive at all.

other than that, i've been enjoying the f40 with rockbox on it!  i just edited the GreatEscapre wps to make it a little better for my needs in the built-in text editor and edited the background in rockpaint - all while listening to music :)   can't do that with stock firmware!!!

For the USB charge to work, the computer (usualy) and the Device have to be turned ON.

In the case of the Gigabeat the battery is also charged when the device if off (technically it's still on, but it's in sleep mode) It doesn't show the charging screen you get with the charger connected.

I didn't have to switch the battery off for that, but perhaps never charged it till 100% that way. Maybe we can debug it a little when we have our own bootloader in flash.
