If you can't follow the existing directions for it, it's *very* likely you'll just make things work. What you need to do is spend some time learning how to use linux, and carefully read over the existing threads that talk about e200tool. Spend days, or longer, making sure you know everything that you can about it, ask specific questions when you don't understand something.

DO NOT try using the tool until you're 100% sure you know exactly what steps to take.

You've already screwed up your player by ignoring instructions, and it's beyond the point where you can fix it quickly or easily without technical knowledge. You now have to spend some time researching and learning, because it's not a complicated, and more dangerous, process.

Your best bet is to boot a computer into linux, rather than using the VMWare image. Your Ubuntu LiveCD should work fine. As I said, read what has already been posted. There is a lot of information about it, spend some time searching. If your next question is one that is clearly answered in the main thread about using e200tool, or any of the main pages about it, I'm very likely not to respond.

If you can't read and understand directions well enough to figure out how to set it up yourself, then there is a very good chance that when time comes to use it, you'll do so improperly and make your Sansa worse. Holding your hand too much now, basically, could make things worse for you later. You need to understand what you're doing by learning to do it.

the linux I have did nothing I cant make e200tool,and the e200tool for windows go nuts I put the device in manufacturing mode and then I run e200tool and it cant detect the sansa, and the sansa has the id 0781:0720 and the e200tool searches for that number and the sansa is connected,so it is going nuts

Make sure your basic developmental tools (such as gcc, make, C headers, kernel headers, etc) are installed. You will also need libusb and its devel package. Now unzip the files into an empty directory and do:

make&&make install

You need to have the Windows port of libusb installed.

Even with the windows libusb it doesn't work for many/most people. In fact I'm not sure I've seen a confirmed post of it working in windows.
