USB on Sansa question
« on: May 31, 2007, 06:48:19 PM »
Hi everyone,

when I plug the USB cable into my Sansa, playback stops and a USB-plug icon is displayed on screen. I know that USB transfer is not yet working on the Sansa but I thought that I can continue to use rockbox as normal, even while it's plugged in.

Do I have to press some button when inserting the cable? I couldn't find any information in the manual.

I believe that it's just the USB mode, like any other mode (even the original sansa firmware). Just that with rockbox you are not able to transfer files or actually connect to your computer (yet).

However, I thought you can continue to use Rockbox while in USB mode. It just displays the USB icon, though.

If you hold down the center button while plugging in the usb cable, you can continue to use rockbox while the cable is plugged in.  If memory serves, however, the usb connection currently does not really provide enough power to do anything, so I don't know if there is any advantage to doing so.

The sansa lasted 20 or so hours on a few hour charge on the original OS
that means it charges more power than it uses.
I'm not sure, but I don't think rockbox uses that much more power than the default OS.

Yes, but I think Rockbox cannot charge the battery properly yet. So if you plug it in, the battery will empty faster than it's recharged.

Rockbox itself seems to last 12-16 hours but you have to charge the battery using the original firmware.

rockbox only draws 200~250mAh on the usb so is not good,is better to use the original firmware to do this
