Ipod Video 80 GB Mount Problems
dinkoarun:
I formatted my iPod 80gb Video using a mac with mtools and other stuff mentioned in the manual.
I installed bootloader version 1.1 and firmware build on may 30.
I am having trouble booting the iPod on my mac to transfer music. It takes about 1to2 minutes to recognize the iPod during the mounting. After it has been ejected the second time the iPod does not even goto Disk Mode properly. If I hold Select and Play and put it in emergency disc mode, it says OK to disconnect.
In order to be mounted again i have to restart the mac with the iPod connected in.
I don't know if its a Mac issue or an iPod firmware issue, but any help would be appreciated.

I've always experienced very slow (1-2 minute) mount times when attaching my ipod (a 60GB Color) to my Mac - it seems to be a "feature" of Mac OS X when accessing FAT32 formatted ipods. I've never found a solution.
As for your other issues, I haven't experienced them - do you get the same issues if you only connect to your Mac when running the original Apple firmware on your ipod?

I have experienced some of the slowing with a FAT32 iPod connected to a Mac. Lots of it has to do with the built in disk mode in my opinion which is far slower than the Apple firmware. I don't know why that is, but if you can, try connecting the iPod while it is booted in the original FW.
I had the mounting issue with a flash drive once and had to restart my machine with it connected. I think its a bug with the Mac recognizing certain drives that either have not been properly disconnected or that have some type of file corruption.
Third, I haven't been able to format my 80gb iPod in any way with my Mac that allowed Rockbox to work. Eventually I had to resort to searching out a windows machine with iTunes. Be aware that once you get it booting and connecting to your computer that you might not actually be able to run Rockbox.

Nothing quite so serious on my WinXP SP2 box, but since installing the version 1.1 bootloader on my 80GB iPod, it is mounting as if it were a USB1 device (very slow file transfers). Strange. Has anyone else had this problem?
psycho_maniac:
yes i have had the very slow mount time and the transfers seem slower then usb1.
