Unauthorized plugins?

Obviously there are some things that Rockbox on it's own can't do due to legal issues (like playing DRM or WMA or AVI I think?)

So hypothetically, could people create "unofficial" Rbx plugins to do this, as long as Rbx.org didn't link them?

non-drm wma is legal to play, but near impossible due to lack of fixed-point implementations of the decoder. I dont see whats wrong with playing AVI.
