What is Rockbox?

hi im new i wanted to know what is this stuff ive seen my cuzin and he had somthing rockbox related on his ipod. could some one please explain what it is and how to download and use this "thing"?

IMHO that page should be linked to in the sidebar of rockbox.org, preferably somewhere near the top . If one doesn't know where it is (e.g.: new users, people curious about Rockbox, etc), it is very hard to find. @Llorean, what do you think.

Yes, you are right (brown paper bag time). However, I have had several people asking me what features does Rockbox have after looking at the front page. Maybe changing "what is Rocbox?" to a sentence that involves the word "features" would help?
