Various problems with rockbox speech
« on: May 29, 2007, 09:57:32 AM »
Maybe someone can help - I bought an iPod 30GB 5.5 for my wife, and as she is blind, I thought I would install Rockbox and voices so she could find her way around it more easily.  Rockbox installed ok, but I have problems with the speech.

So far the speech will say menu items on start up but if I go further into directories it only numbers items.  I downloaded Voicebox and made .talk files for directory names, but so far the voice only says the directory names if I scroll over the .talk file.

Also, I would obviously like to have the iPod read artist and song names, and so far they are either numbered or spelt, even though I have selected the "while hover" option.  Maybe I have to make .talk files for each song, but that requires firstly finding them (they are only viewable from a computer) and then renaming each one into something resembling the real songs.  Apple haven't made accessibility easy here!

All suggestions much appreciated.

Nick

With Rockbox you don't need to sync your files with iTunes. Just go into Disk Mode and connect to the PC, than use your Filebrowser/Explorer and copy the Files to your player. So it woul be eayer for you to find the musicfiles.

If you do so don't forget to remove the old Apple dirs :)

Thanks for the advice - I have read the forums more, and now have worked out how to do it.  I had erased the _ when naming the directories, which explains why they weren't voiced.  I have successfully put music onto the iPod as mp3s, and have successfully used Voicebox to name them too.  Only problem is that not all directories are voiced - when Rockbox loads, it voices the menu options, but when I go to files (I know tag cache cannot voice (I believe), the only directory to be voiced is iPod Control.  The rest are numbered, and the directories I have created for albums are not voiced immediately when I scroll over them.

I think I've done all the searching I can  ???, and I have followed the instructions as far as I can see it.  Any more advice?
