iPOD 5th generation - Key-lock

<< < (4/5) > >>

wesderby:
Just a quick update...I disabled the "ReplayGain" function, and am now running the 06/14/07 update (I want to say the time stamp was around 12:42 AM).  I successfully used the iPod without the locking occuring afterward, though on my ride in to work, it did lock after about 40 minutes.  The only other "extra" that I have enabled is the beeps when moving to the next or previous track.  So, I'm now certainly able to go longer without it locking up on me, which is nice.

GodEater:
Someone came up with a theory in the IRC channel that this *might* have something to do with use of the database feature, which as a rule, the developers don't use themselves - which could explain why it's not happened to any of us.

So can all of you that have reported this issue indicate whether you use the database or not ?

peteypiefrogworth:
Hi GodEater,
I have the database loaded... I don't actually generally use it to pick songs or (automatically) create playlists (i.e. starting a song via the database view) - but I assume that's not so much what it's about.
It'd be weird but there you go - I guess yes, I do "use" the database.

I'd say that's exactly what it's about. Just having an initialised database probably isn't the issue - we're wondering if it's because people are actively using it to line up their tunes. But I guess if you're getting the problem and you *don't* use it in this manner than we can tick that off the list already :(

peteypiefrogworth:
Sorry :( Wish I could say that it is the case, but no, I don't use it that way.

My experience is that I have to have left the player alone for some time before it happens - generally. On a side-note, as soon as I turned ReplayGain on, it started doing it within about one track - and stopped again when I turned it off and had then rebooted.
However, with it off, as I said it takes just not touching it for a while, like a long car-ride. Beats me how something could "build up" or whatever, but there you go.
