Using iTunes to restore

(1/2) > >>

knight4led:
As stated in many places in the manual the easiest way to convert an HFS+ iPod to FAT32 is simply connecting to iTunes on a PC, but that presents a problem for me.

I managed to get iTunes 7.1 onto a friend's laptop, but upon connecting my iPod it wouldn't restore it without an internet connection. Therein lies the issue, we can't get internet except a few hours a day and usually not on our own computers.

I realize this isn't strictly a Rockbox question, but anyone aware if it is possible to bypass the internet prompt on Windows iTunes? It doesn't ask when restoring on my Mac version.

(I tried this as a means to double check that my iPod was formatted correctly because I am having issues where the bootloader reports it can't find rockbox.ipod)

I think Apple also has a stand alone restore utility that they distribute with the firmware updater.

I was looking for that, but since iTunes 7 that has been dropped and my iPod currently has the 1.2.1 firmware which is only in the latest versions of iTunes

linuxstb:
Apple have stopped distributing the standalone ipod updaters, but you can still find them on the web.  The ipodwizard forums are probably a good place to look.

I'm looking, can't seem to find much.
