Does test.mp4 already exist ? If it does, try creating a new file instead. I think "-add" is for that anyway.
If test.mp4 doesn't already exist, are you sure you have write permissions in the folder ?
I can't see anything else...

It doesn't exist so this behaviour is weird. It's probably a quirk of Vista. My user created that directory so I have full permissions to it. In theory.

Is the .mp4b you uploaded supposed to work with iTunes? Because on Windows, it won't show any chapters! If it should show the chapters, I can try uploading it to the iPod and see if it does recognize the chapters.

Yes, my M4B example should display chapters on iTunes and an iPod. It's very strange if it doesn't. Maybe you can try with this one to see if it work better...
Any progress on the I/O error ?

Nope, nothing. I will try and uploading your .mp4b on my iPod when I return from my trips and see if it works there. iTunes 7.2 on Windows doesn't show any chapters on it...

That's really strange. Maybe it doesn't properly detect the files as being bookmarkable ? I think they should appear as audiobooks or something.

OK so I loaded the mp4b on my iPod and it showed up correctly as audiobook and it had the chapters builtin as well. That's all good. So it's a matter of seeing if mp4box can create these files now.

Is there any chance you can deconstruct and re-make this file with mp4box like you said in your previous post and then upload it so I can test it on my iPod? I would do it myself but as you've seen I haven't had much luck with mp4box...

OK So I used a friend's computer to try what you suggested and as we expected, it doesn't work on the iPod...

Any other ideas?

Sorry I wasn't able to do it for you, I didn't have the tools at hand and my time was taken by other rockbox jobs... I don't have any other ideas for the moment but I'll keep looking :)
