H120 firmware version 1.63E

(1/1)

jeffbarish:
The list of firmware versions in the installation instructions does not include version 1.63E (no U), which is the version number I see when I boot my unit.  Is it safe to use firmware version 1.63EU instead?

nls:
fwpatcher does only patch known-good versions of the firmware so as long as it says it worked ok, it's ok.

jeffbarish:
Perhaps I don't understand what is happening when I follow the installation instructions.  When I run fwpatcher.exe, I specify an ihp_120.hex file.  That file came out of a zip file that I downloaded previously from Rockbox.  I would be very surprised if fwpatcher did not work on all of the .hex files one can download from the Rockbox site -- and, indeed, it did work on the one that I downloaded by clicking on 1.63EU.  However, all of this happened without having my H120 connected, so how is my success to this point telling me anything about the compatibility with my H120 of the firmware that I downloaded from Rockbox and then patched using the tool from Rockbox?

Llorean:
Because what's currently on your H120 is irrelevant. You're replacing the firmware on it with a newer version. There aren't any known hardware differences between US, European, and Korean hardware, so any H120 firmware version will work on any H120.

You're completely overwriting the existing one, and you can pick the 1.65 version too, if you'd like to update your iRiver firwmare in the process (though that's somewhat pointless, our hope is that you'll find no reason to use the original firmware).

If there were prerequisites regarding what your player was running, they would be written of in the manual.
