database problem on gigabeat f40

ive read the manuel and searched the forums and i cant figure this one out i have a f40 everything works fine but when i try to intialize the database it stays at zero the harddrive only spins for the 6 sec i set it to, i even let it sit over night on the initilize screen and it did nothing. oh and i have the current build and all my files are in mp3 format any help would be greatly appriciated
