Menu screen Bookmark selection: include further bookmark info.--folder name?

(1/4) > >>

Mikerman:
So, very nice new Menu screen Recent Bookmark listing arrangement--makes it easier to scan through the recent bookmarks, to choose the correct one.

At the risk of complicating it with further information, however, I wonder if it would be useful and possible to include the folder name for the bookmarked file?  (Did the old system include this information?)  Especially for those of us with larger collections, this would be helpful for identifying the CD-collection/folder to which the bookmarked file pertains.

(The reason I mention this is, I just had this situation, with my not being able to recall the CD/folder to which the bookmarked song belonged.)

I realize that this potentially would take a line of space, but it would be well worth it for many, especially as one still would be able to scroll through the bookmark list to see it all.  (This has been added to Feature Requests.)

edit:  Also, I just noticed that pressing the REC button on the iRiver H-1xx players while in the Menu/Recent Bookmarks screen erases the selected bookmark.  However, right now, many use the REC button to reactivate the player's backlight, so as to be able to read the screen.  Indeed, I discovered this when I had tried to reactivate the backlight while in the Recent Bookmarks screen.  Should this Bookmarks functionality be changed, given the great utility of the REC/backlight function?  (Comment has been added to Bugtracker.)

That information isn't included in the bookmark file, so at the moment this isn't possible (at least not in an efficient way).

Using the rec button to delete a bookmark is something that's been there for some time (about 9 months, since the button actions were introduced, I think), so it isn't new behaviour.

And IMHO, it seems a bit odd to only use the rec button for turning on the backlight... :)

Mikerman:
Ah, didn't realize/recall that REC already existed as a delete key (there was no screen indication)--thought this was an expected consequence/conflict with REC for the backlight.  And I guess I just had gotten used to using REC to turn the backlight on (hadn't been aware of it before, and then saw a tip here)--but other key presses can be used for that as well.

I believe this is incorrect. The directory/playlist information is held in the bookmark file, and therefore it would be quite easy to show this information in the list.

Mikerman:
I do wonder:  as recent bookmark delete can be operated through the recent bookmarks context menu, should delete also occur through the un-noted REC key, where people may be using it otherwise to turn the backlight on?

I guess it's just a judgment call between the 2 as shortcuts, but also noting that users may unwittingly delete a bookmark thru use of the REC key until its bookmark delete function is learned/noted, as happened to me.  (Of course, ultimate reassignment of the REC key to other functions, as has been discussed, may necessitate the elimination of this recent bookmarks shortcut.)
