Hard Disk players accepting Compact Flash replacement
« on: May 26, 2007, 10:21:20 AM »
Do any of the Rockbox supporterd HD players accept a CF with a suitable adaptor?

With the price of a 16Gb CF card approaching £100, I'm tempted to experiment if the player itself is cheap enough.

Obviously a Rockbox supported player with a CF slot would be better, but even non-Rockbox supported are few and far between.

The only (non-Rockbox) contender is a NexBlack, and this has quite a few limitations of its own.

Ipod minis work with some CF cards. I don't know of any other player.

Somebody was (is?) working on it for other iPods. The link is from April; I don't know the current status of it.

Why? For that money (ipod mini + flash card) you could buy a flash based DAP!

Why not? If you want rockbox AND a flash drive...and perhaps can't programm well enough to port...
Also it's an option to fix a broken player :)

Besides there are no flash based DAPs that have a capacity of 16GB.

I think the largest you could currently get would be a Sansa e280 with a 2GB microSD card (=10GB).

Well, this is it. At ~£100 for a 16Gb CF, I'd be happy with that spec. for that price. The accessories market is second to none, and if I Rockbox it, I don't have any of the usual limitations.

Depending on your definition of "limitations":
You will have greatly reduced battery life:

You will not be able to use all iPod accessories:
